Glass Techniques Compared
New to working with glass? Here is how the four techniques we teach differ, so you can choose the workshop that suits you.
| Technique | What you do | You make |
|---|---|---|
| Lampwork | Melt glass rods at a torch | Beads, rings, earrings |
| Tiffany stained glass | Cut glass, copper-foil, solder | Suncatchers, figures, panels |
| Fusing | Layer glass, melt in a kiln | Dishes, pictures, pendants |
| Mosaic | Lay glass pieces, grout | Panels, coasters, trays |
Torch or no torch? Lampwork is the only one done at an open flame. Stained glass and mosaic are assembled at a table; fusing is finished in a kiln. All four are beginner-friendly with a master guiding you.
Fastest to a finished piece: lampwork bead or a small stained-glass suncatcher.
