What Is Glass Mosaic?
Mosaic is one of the oldest decorative arts: an image or pattern built from many small pieces of coloured glass (tesserae).
How it works
Pieces of glass are cut or nipped to size and glued onto a base following a design. Once set, the gaps are filled with grout, which locks the pieces in place and unifies the surface. Light catches each piece at a slightly different angle, giving mosaic its characteristic shimmer.
What you can make
- Decorative panels and pictures;
- coasters and small trays;
- mirror frames.
Mosaic is relaxed and forgiving — a good choice if you like detailed, hands-on work without an open flame.
Try it yourself
The best way to understand it is to make something with your own hands. Join our glass workshops in Moscow — beginners welcome, all materials included. Questions? Email info@glassbaker.art, WhatsApp or Telegram.
